The project involved installing fence panels on top of an existing wall to increase the height and provide greater privacy and security.

Additionally, panels were required between the property and its neighbouring house. The client’s existing fencing featured matching tongue-and-groove panels at the rear of the property, with trellis panels segmenting the rear and front gardens.

Considerations for Installing Fence Panels on a Wall

There are multiple ways to install fence panels on a wall, but the integrity, strength, and overall condition of the wall must be carefully assessed before any work begins. If the wall is not structurally sound, an alternative approach is to install fence posts in the ground and position the panels above the wall’s height. Another option is using fence post feet fixed to the top of the wall, though again, the wall’s integrity and design must be suitable for this type of installation.

For this project, Cooper Edwards Fencing opted to use wooden spur posts fixed at ground level inside the property wall. These spur posts were securely attached to the wall, and slotted Jakposts fence posts were then affixed to them. This method ensured a seamless, visually appealing installation, with the panels appearing flush against the wall when viewed from the outside. The chosen fencing style on top of the wall was 0.91m (3ft) Hit and Miss panels, which offer an ideal balance of privacy and wind resistance. Their modern yet timeless aesthetic ensures they complement various property styles, including cottages and rural homes.

Between the properties, the same Hit and Miss panel design was used, with an additional gravel board included to protect the panels from ground contact and moisture damage. A matching 1.75m-high Hit and Miss garden gate was also installed to provide secure and private access down the side of the property.

Finishing Touches and Durability

To complete the installation, all panels were topped with capping rails, adding a refined and cohesive appearance. As with all Jacksons Fencing products, stainless steel fixings were used both in manufacturing and installation. This ensures longevity, preventing unsightly rust and maintaining the aesthetic appeal of the fencing throughout its 25-year guarantee period and beyond.

The completed fencing installation by Cooper Edwards Fencing successfully enhanced the property's privacy, security, and overall appearance. By using high-quality materials and expert installation techniques, the project delivered a durable and stylish fencing solution that will stand the test of time
