Slotted Heavy Duty Fence Posts

As with standard slotted posts, our heavy duty slotted posts are designed to work with all of our fencing panels from Jaktop and Palisade to Featherboard, and even our Premier Trellis fence panels.

While the longer heavy slotted posts are strong, they are only intended to be used with solid fence heights of less than 2.4m, unless acoustic spur posts are added. They are suited to a combination of taller panels and trellis toppers and/or to deal with stepping on slopes.

Heavy Duty Jakposts are 120mm x 124mm nominal section, planed finish with two 54mm x 25mm slots for fence panels.

Note: 54mm x 25mm slot is to allow a clearance on our 50mm wide panel framing.

Where possible, avoid cutting, drilling or notching any timber that will be in-ground, as per our 25 year Jakcure® terms and conditions. If occasional sections do have to be cut then Cut Treatment should be applied liberally.

Why would I use a heavy duty slotted post over a standard slotted post?

  • Heavy duty posts should be used if the fence is over 2 metres in height.
  • If the fence is going to be installed where there is possibility of strong winds.
  • If the fence is going to be steeply stepped up a hill, heavy duty posts should be used.
  • Ground conditions should also be taken into consideration. If the ground is soft and marshy then this is another reason for heavy duty posts.

For more detailed reasoning on when to use Heavy Duty Fence posts read our blog

When to use heavy duty posts

Some advantages of using slotted posts over standard posts can be found below:

  • Jakposts reduce damage caused by wind movement when panels are screwed to posts.
  • Fence panels slot easily into position when the posts have been installed.
  • No more frost damaged cracked or chipped concrete posts
  • Easy to carry - lighter than concrete posts
  • Environmentally friendly
  • More supportive than square section posts
  • Easier to erect than concrete posts
  • Complete range of panels to slot in Jakposts
  • Gravel boards, capping and finials available

Our heavy duty slotted corner posts also include a Timber Retaining Strip rather than a corner bracket to hold the panel in position.

25-year Jakcure® guarantee:

  • Please note that when cutting or drilling this product we recommend using Jakcure® End Grain Preservative to ensure cut timber is not left untreated, also please refer to our Timber post installation instructions below for the correct installation steps.
  • Gravel boards are required where panels are in contact with the ground to meet the conditions of the guarantee.

We recommend that all posts should be set in concrete and a minimum of 0.6m into the ground. Download Post Installation Instructions.

We also recommend all posts should be installed using PostcreteNote: Postcrete, we recommend a minimum of 60kg (3 x 20kg Bags) per post, please use code 648070

We recommend using 6 screws per panel or 12 per panel if using capping rails.
60mm Screws, Self-Drilling Countersunk Stainless Steel are available in pack of 100 or 200 to secure panels to posts, see codes:
809900 for pack 200 Torx head
809911 for pack 100 Torx head
