At this year's RHS Tatton Flower Show we worked alongside Nadine Mansfield, a garden designer based in Cheshire in her show garden – The Better New Build.
Nadine opted for our double slatted fence panels, Venetian Hit and Miss, for her garden design, installed with a Hedgehog Gravel Board to showcase wildlife friendly products within a new build garden design.
The design centred around inspiring new build homeowners and property developers to make more of their outdoor spaces and ditch environmentally damaging products, like artificial grass.
Our double slatted Venetian Hit and Miss fence panels, are a popular choice for high quality new build developments as the panels not only complement the premium nature of the house itself but are also appealing to homeowners, providing them with a contemporary backdrop ready for adding their stamp on the bare space.
Choosing a double slatted fence keeps privacy high as the panel is double sided with pales alternating on either side, creating a hit and miss design. The view through the panel is distorted but light and air can still flow through the panel, benefiting plants close to the fence line.
At Jacksons we are conscious of the impact our products have on wildlife. That is why we invented the first hedgehog gravel board in 2015. Over the years we've worked hard to stress the importance of adding hedgehog gravel boards and creating wildlife highways within new developments, as they are often built on land that local wildlife used to inhabit.
All our fence panels come with a 25-year guarantee against rot and insect attack which can be an attractive buying consideration when looking for a new home, as it takes the worry out of having to replace the fencing soon after buying the home.
New build gardens often have no personality and aren't seen by the developer as part of the overall home. For owners, they are blank canvases ready to be taken advantage of. Within her design, Nadine shows clever design techniques that take the shell of the garden and add beautiful layers and textures. Not to mention taking reclaimed items and creating features for humans and wildlife, like the gabion bench which has reclaimed slates that fill between the gabions.
Nadine wanted to showcase how artificial grass isn't the only option for gardens when low maintenance is required. Artificial grass is awful for wildlife and does require maintenance like sweeping and hoovering. A more attractive wildlife friendly option is to pave and gravel the garden and scatter beautiful plants within the gravel to add greenery, scent, and texture.
We loved having the opportunity to work alongside Nadine who was part of the ‘Career Change' category for RHS Tatton this year. Nadine worked in marketing for 25 years and decided to step away from that and change her career to something she'd always enjoyed and had a passion for.
"The Venetian Hit & Miss panels from Jacksons Fencing were the perfect choice for The Better New Build Garden design at RHS Flower Show Tatton Park as they are modern, sleek and extremely well made. The finish is excellent. The hedgehog hole in the gravel board was a real hit with visitors to the show with people also commenting on how they loved the way the fence created privacy but allowed for airflow too. They also liked the natural look of the fence and posts due to them being made from wood - no concrete in sight!" Nadine Mansfield, Nadine Mansfield Garden Design
