Garden Fencing Essex was tasked with installing a contemporary fence and a gate for a project in Leigh-on-Sea, a coastal town in Essex known for its charming seaside atmosphere, historic fishing heritage, and vibrant cultural scene.
The project required fencing that complemented a clean, contemporary garden makeover featuring porcelain slabs and raised porcelain planting beds in modern grey. The chosen fencing needed to be durable and low maintenance.
Starting with the front garden fence, Venetian panels were chosen for their contemporary slatted design, offering a stylish yet semi-solid appearance. A popular choice for front gardens, Venetian panels allow light and air to pass through, helping to maintain an open and inviting feel at the front of the property.
At the end of the driveway where a path leads to the side of the property, a side garden gate was installed to provide security. A Canterbury Combi garden gate, which consists of vertical tongue and groove boards on the lower section and slats at the top (which match the venetian style fence at the front of the property) help to create one cohesive design. This style is a popular choice for side gates, offering both security and privacy with the solid part, while the slatted pales at the top increase natural light and improve the gate's aesthetic appeal.
The gate was fitted with a J-lock, which comes pre-installed and provides excellent security and convenience. The J-lock allows the gate to be opened from both sides and locked with a key from either side, ensuring ease of use and enhanced security.
Our garden gates are made with sturdy horizontal and diagonal braces. These are added for extra strength on the rear side of the gate. These provide a strong and reliable foundation for attaching pales, fence boards, or cladding. While our pales and boards may look similar to those from other fencing companies, they stand apart in quality. The softwood timber we use for our garden gates is ethically and responsibly sourced, thicker, heavier, and of superior quality. It is also kiln-dried and pressure-treated to ensure durability, maintaining its appearance and functionality for years to come. In fact, like all our timber products, it is built to exceed our 25-year guarantee.
For the rear and side of the property, Vertical Tongue and Groove Effect fence panels with slotted wooden fence posts (Jakposts®) were installed, complete with a capping rail to enhance the appearance.
A vertical Tongue and Groove Effect fence panel is a popular choice for homeowners looking for a contemporary style because of its clean and modern appearance. The vertical boards create a sleek, uninterrupted look that complements modern homes, while the wooden close boarded design provides a solid, high-quality finish.
This type of fencing also enhances privacy and security, as there are no gaps between the boards. The vertical lines help create the illusion of height, making gardens feel more spacious. Additionally, its smooth and durable construction ensures a stylish, long-lasting solution that suits a range of property styles.
To create interest and focal points, Square Trellis was affixed to the Horizontal Tongue and Groove fence panels at the base of raised beds. This technique is great to help climbing plants and height as plants grow vertically. Raised beds with different levels and layers create more interest and make use of more vertical space.

This project in Leigh-on-Sea showcases how different Jacksons fence panel styles can be combined to create a contemporary, stylish, and long-lasting garden boundary, tailored to suit both practical and aesthetic needs.
