Thanks to Maria at Greenlines Design Ltd for sharing the results of this contemporary garden makeover in Wimbledon, featuring a range of our fence panels.
The Brief
Our clients wanted a low-maintenance family garden that would work with the contemporary interior of the house. The garden was very tired and neglected when we started; like in most cases, the new owner began with the interior of the house, leaving the garden last to receive a makeover.
The completion of work from the design stage took approximately six months. Greenlines Design have used Jacksons fencing on several of our projects and as the range suited the design we choose to use you again.'
The completion of work from the design stage took approximately six months. Greenlines Design have used Jacksons Fencing fence panels on several other projects, and as the range suited the design, we chose to use them again. Venetian,, Trellis Panel, and Tongue and Groove panels were used in this project, and we painted the fences on-site to complement the overall aesthetic of the garden.
The design aimed to create a seamless flow between the house and the garden, extending the contemporary feel of the home into the outdoor space. By using Venetian panels, we introduced a modern, sleek look while also allowing light to filter through, creating an airy and spacious feel. We chose to install the Venetian in front of the garden shed, to act as a contemporary garden screen to improve the overall look of the garden by hiding unsightly objects.
The trellis panels helped to add structure while providing support for climbing plants, which will further soften the space over time and introduce more greenery.
A key consideration for the garden was functionality. The homeowners have young children, so we incorporated a safe and open play area with durable, easy-to-maintain surfaces. Tongue and Groove Effect fence panels were used across the shared boundary to provide privacy in the garden. Solid in design these fence panels are often popular not only for contemporary aesthetic but for their added layers of privacy.
The carefully selected planting scheme includes evergreen shrubs and low-maintenance perennials to ensure year-round interest with minimal upkeep. Raised beds help to add dimension and define different sections of the garden, making it feel larger and more inviting. You can make your own raised beds using our wooden sleepers. We explain how in our blog – how to build a raised bed with sleepers.
We also introduced subtle outdoor lighting to enhance the garden’s usability in the evenings, providing both a practical and atmospheric touch. The combination of fencing and well-placed lighting creates a beautiful backdrop that can be enjoyed from inside the house as well.
Our client is overjoyed with the result, and we are pretty proud of the transformation too! The contemporary fencing plays a vital role in the garden’s overall look, creating a contemporary yet warm and welcoming space that meets the family's needs perfectly.
Painting a fence is completely up to the end user. A good quality fence does not need to be painted or stained to prolong it's life. Paint may look great when first applied but will have a relatively short life span. In a matter of months paint will start to fade, and flake away causing the fence to not look great. If you start painting your fence, you’ll be painting every year or so until you replace your fencing. this does not make it a low maintenance option.
